Blackjack Strategies – Must Have Secrets Revealed

September 20th, 2009 Poker Tips Comments Off

When you are a newbie to the game you are best of to start by studying the basic strategy for Blackjack and also get a correct Blackjack strategy card, to keep near your PC when gambling online.

There are many different techniques for Blackjack used by professional card players and those who play for fun. You should select a couple of techniques from the many that you will find and it may very well prove to be the key needed to boost your winnings. Of course you need to really know the rules of Blackjack first, but what of the techniques to use at the table?

We normally think of counting cards when we think of Blackjack strategies, though if a casino spots you doing this they will eject you. To use this method you must memorize which cards have been played, so that you can determine which cards are more likely to turn up. When you can anticipate what is coming you can bet accordingly.

In real life casinos you are not permitted to make any physical record of the cards that have been dealt. However, if you’re talented with regard to memorizing the cards, then by all means try this method until you are found out and banned! Of course, online casinos can’t tell if you are keeping track of cards, and you can better your odds.

The rules of Blackjack can vary considerably from one location to another, and these variations can impact on your chances. For example, you may not have the option to split a hand when you get two of the same card as with two eights. Having the opportunity to split your hand can help you win big, but if not you will have a much more difficult time beating the house.

Requiring the dealer to stand at 17 is also a common rule, which can be an advantage to you. If this rule is not enforced, your chances are reduced. These are just two cases in point where the slight variation in rulings can make it much more difficult to win.

But what about the betting itself – are there techniques you can use to help guide you on when and what to wager? Many betting techniques have been established, and your best strategy is to find one you understand and like and use it consistently. A couple of the most popular methods which you are likely to come across include the Martingale and Paroli systems.

Blackjack betting strategies vary widely, and this couple couldn’t be more different since they take totally different perspectives. The Martingale system works by having you double your bet each time you lose, if you win you make your original bet again. As opposed to Martingale which has you double when you lose, you increase the bet with a win using Paroli. The Paroli betting system is all about trying to exploit winning streaks and the Martingale system is focused on breaking losing streaks. Both systems have some flaws. When you are playing by Martingale a big bankroll is needed. Say you start with a $10 bet and go on to lose 7 hands back to back for a total loss of $1270  the system now dictates you bet $1280 on the 8. round! Paroli requires a much smaller bankroll. Letting your initial bet be $10  and loosing seven rounds back to back you will only have lost $70 total.

Another of the most popular techniques is the Parlay procedure, a a little less risky when compared with Martingale and Paroli. As with Martingale, if you win the hand, you increase the bet, you simply add a portion of the value won to the standard bet.

It will help you if you can have access to a calculator that runs odds when you play Blackjack or a Blackjack scorecard. A good way to increase your odds is to be able to anticipate what cards will be played, and calculating techniques, both paper and digital, can work this out for you. The odds can be determined by calculation and help you bet, and whether to hit or stand.

Of course the calculation strategies only apply to Internet Blackjack. In a real Blackjack room you’d be asked to leave the table if caught making notes or using any kind of device. Of course, you can try to count cards but no devices are allowed.

Poker Bankroll – Why is it so important?

September 20th, 2009 Poker Tips Comments Off

So why is poker bankroll management so important? This question can be answered quite easily, if you go broke then you can’t continue on playing. Mismanagement of their poker bankrolls is probably the #1 reason why so many players fail.Redeposits back into the poker sites is very common as players are trying to win too much too fast.

The term bankroll is basically an amount of money that you use for playing poker and nothing else. It should definitely not be money that you need for the necessities like food, rent or clothing. You should be willing to lose whatever amount you choose. Here is what I pesonally use and recommend regarding bankroll management.

SNG (Sit n Go’s) – I use 2% or 1/50th of my bankroll for each buy in. For example if you have a $1000 bankroll then you should be playing $20 SNG’s

Multi Table Tournaments (MTT) – I used 1% or 1/100th of my bankroll for each buy in. The main reason for this is that you will have more fluctuations with your bankroll as most MTT’s pay only the top 10% so you will be cashing less often.

Cash Games – Use only 2% or 1/50th of each buy in. For example if you were playing $1/$2 NL, the buy in is usually 100 X Big Blind so in this case $200. In my opinion a bankroll of $10,000 is needed at these levels.

As exaggerated as it may seem, by sticking to these simple guidelines you will virtually elimante the chance of losing all of your money and is the reason that I never have to redeposit into the poker rooms. There is no doubt that you will go through some periods of losing as poker can be a roller coaster ride. If you don’t have enough money to go through these swings it adds a lot of pressure on you, which in turn forces you to make bad decisions because the money is an issue. The old saying “Scared money is losing money” is so true.

Different Types Of Poker Games – Valuable Tips

September 1st, 2009 Poker Tips Comments Off

A game much better than Texas Hold’em where action is concerned is Omaha or Omaha Hi/Low. It is quite similar to Hold’em, the difference is that the player gets 4 hole cards. The additional 2 cards almost assure that the best hand available is out there somewhere. The Hi/Low versions make these various poker games even more fun. As the player who has hit tries to push the chasers out, the betting gets wild.
Different strategies are required for these varieties of poker games if you want to participate in games where you can scoop the pot. Scoop the pot means to win both the Hi and the Low hands versus only having one dimension of the pot covered. All of the variables and the 4 hole cards guarantee that there is a ton of money in almost every pot.

While there are many different types of poker games to choose from, an old favorite is 7 card stud. This is also a game that has a Hi/Low version as well. 2 cards are first distributed face down and then one with its face up. Each player receives one more card face up after the first round of betting. This process goes on until each player has 2 down cards and 4 up cards. This is the time when the final round of betting occurs.

Holdem Stud Poker is not a chaser’s game like the other varieties of poker games, for example Omaha. If you cannot succeed in creating a good hand by the first round of betting and on getting the second up card, you have to give up. You stand to lose everything. As it is necessary to keep in mind all the cards that have been dealt so far, this game requires brainpower too. You cannot waste time looking for a card which has already been folded on board. Pay attention and keep track of the cards on the board.

Another variation on 7 is Razz, a different type of poker game appropriate for people with bad luck. Instead of trying to get the winning hand, you are rooting for the worst hand possible. While A-2-3-4-6-7-8 in a real game is a nightmare, In Razz it is a dream come true. It is played in the same manner as 7 stud, you only need the lowest ranked hand to emerge a winner. Similar to the usual stud, only 5 cards play.

Triple Draw is one more game which is drawing a lot of interest these days. It is one of the most thrilling and fun filled poker games. This is a money making game if you have discipline. People play this game at lower stakes for pure pleasure. Triple Draw is a version similar to Razz and has a 5 card draw. You are dealt 5 cards and there is a round of betting. You may throw away the cards you don’t want but see that you have the worst possible hand. In standard Triple Draw, 2-3-4-5-7 is the nuts. When the first draw is over, one more betting and discard round takes place. After the third draw and one more round of betting, it is time for the showdown. Do not forget, no pairs, flushes or straights are required. You only require the worst cards to win.
